How to brighten a too dark movie.

This process will create a new, brighter version of a movie that is too dark. Your source file can be any supported format such as MPEG-1, MPEG-2 or any other AVI, including all MPEG-4 sub-formats, for which you have the required codecs.

From the main menu bar click the Edit button...

...to open the Editor.

Click the Source button

Browse to the location of the movie that you want to make brighter and enter the path to your new target movie.

For this exercise we're encoding to VCD (MPEG-1) at a width of 640 pixels and a height of 272 using the Best Quality option but you can set the output to match your needs. Regardless of your source file type you can save as MPEG-1, MPEG-2 SVCD, MPEG-2 DVD or any other AVI format including all MPEG-4 sub-formats for which you have the required codecs.

To make setting the new brightness easier, select a particular frame in the preview that typifies the darkness problem.

On the Output File Properties tab, select enhancing and check the box to enable the effects.

By sliding the brightness control to the right and then clicking the Apply button, you are able to increase the brightness of the preview. Clicking the Left or Right arrow images will make small changes.

When you are satisfied with the preview, click Start to encode the new movie.

During encoding you can see the effects as they are applied.
